Island is about 730 meters in length and 95
Meters in Width and surrounded with the
biggest Falhu (round/oval shaped lagoon with
a submerged reef). A crystal clear lagoon (Falhu)
just 10 to 15 foot in height runs across
from east to west and surrounding the island
up to Thulaadhoo were in the low tide can be
just a 10 to 15 minutes walk. This Falhu and
gulley’s in them, brims with soft corals and
reef fish, its sheer sides have loads of
nooks and crannies. Fusiliers, blue-lined
snappers and trevallies.
Along the outside reef you
will find white tip reef sharks, napoleon
wrasse, big dogtooth tuna and a few very
large specimen of green turtle are living
here too.
Bodufinolhu Island is located in Baa atoll approximately 75 kilometers north west of Male’. The capital city of the Maldives. The Baa atoll has 50 islands, but only one fifth of them make up the population of this atoll. The remaining islands such as Bodufinolhu Island are deserted with unspoiled wildlife and barely trodden beaches. Due to the location of Baa atoll, it is influenced by the southwest monsoon, especially from May to July, bringing in large quantities of nutrients from the surrounding ocean which attracts Turtles and different kinds of sharks and manta rays. The main occupation of atoll's population is tuna fishing. Some of the islanders are well known for their skilled craftsmanship. Lacquer ware is a particularly unique creation of the people of Thulhaadhoo and is sold in many souvenir shops and resort boutiques. Eydhafushi, the capital island of Baa atoll, is famous for feylia weaving a traditional-style wraparound skirt for women.
With Already Scheduled Ferry services to Hithadhoo and Thulhaadhoo from MTCC, It takes only 2 and Half Hours to get to the Island and also the option of taking a ride by seaplane from the main airport to Baa Atoll were the flight takes 35 minutes to reach the Bodufinolhu Island. |
